Welcoming a new baby into your family is one of the most beautiful, emotional seasons of life—and it goes by faster than you ever expect. As a newborn photographer in Midland, Michigan, I’m here to capture those early days in a way that feels natural, timeless, and true to your family.

If you’ve booked (or are thinking about booking) a newborn photography session, you might be wondering what the experience will actually be like. Here’s everything you need to know so you can feel prepared, relaxed, and excited for your baby’s first photoshoot. 🤍

A Calm, Baby-Led Newborn Session

Every newborn photography session with me is completely baby-led.

That means we follow your baby’s needs the entire time. Whether they need to eat, be soothed, or just want extra snuggles, we pause and take our time. There’s no rushing and no pressure to keep things moving.

As a studio newborn photographer in Midland MI, I’ve created a calm, cozy environment where both baby and parents can settle in and enjoy the experience.

A Warm & Cozy Studio Experience

Your session takes place in my Midland newborn photography studio, designed to be soft, neutral, and peaceful.

The studio is kept warm to keep baby comfortable and sleepy, and everything is styled with a clean, timeless look—so your images never feel trendy or dated.

Many parents tell me this is the first time they’ve been able to slow down and just soak in their baby—and that’s exactly what I want for you.

Everything Is Styled & Prepared for You

One of the biggest questions I get is how to prepare for a newborn photography session—and the good news is, you don’t need to do much. Before your session, I have you fill out a questionnaire which includes the colors you prefer.

I provide everything needed for your newborn photos, including:

Soft wraps and neutral fabrics

Simple, timeless props

Clean, minimal setups focused on your baby

If you have a special item you’d like included, I’m always happy to incorporate it in a meaningful way.

Feeding & Soothing Breaks Are Built In

If you’re wondering what to expect at a newborn photo session, this is important: breaks are completely normal.

We’ll pause as needed for:

Feeding

Diaper changes

Comfort and soothing

These moments are part of creating a relaxed experience—and they help ensure your baby stays content throughout the session.

Parent & Family Photos Matter Too

While your baby is the focus, I always encourage parents and siblings to step in for a few images.

These family newborn photos often become the most treasured—tiny hands wrapped around your fingers, the way your baby fits perfectly in your arms, the connection you’ll want to remember forever.

Don’t worry about posing or what to do—I’ll guide you gently the entire time so everything feels natural and effortless.

No Pressure for “Perfect”

Babies don’t follow a script—and they don’t need to.

As an experienced newborn photographer in Midland Michigan, I fully expect:

A little fussiness

Extra snuggles

Moments that don’t go as planned

And that’s okay. Some of the most meaningful images come from those in-between moments.

What to Bring to Your Newborn Session

To keep your newborn session simple and stress-free, I recommend bringing:

Extra diapers and wipes

A pacifier (even if baby doesn’t always use one)

A bottle if you’re bottle-feeding

A simple outfit for going home

That’s it—everything else is taken care of for you.

When to Book Your Newborn Photographer

For the best availability, I recommend booking your newborn photographer during your second trimester.

Sessions are typically scheduled within the first 1–3 weeks after birth, when babies are sleepiest and easiest to pose for those classic newborn images.

If you happen to schedule when baby is a bit older that is fine too!

The Most Important Thing to Remember

The most important thing you can bring to your session is trust.

Trust the process.

Trust your baby.

And trust that I’ll guide you every step of the way.

These early days are fleeting, but your photos will last forever. It’s truly an honor to document this season for your family.
